Nuclear Weapons, Global Security Data Analysis

Our advanced imaging techniques can detect threats in the air or on the ground, illuminate the structure of the brain, and much more.

Powerful vision

Physics Division applies advanced imaging techniques to many applications—from brain imaging to neutron imaging in inertial fusion to threat detection from airborne cameras.

A particular strength is the quantitative analysis of penetrating radiography using techniques such as the Bayesian Inference Engine (BIE). For instance, the Nuclear Event Analysis Team radiographed a test object using the Dual-Axis Radiography Hydrodynamic Test facility. The radiograph and the inferred density of the object using the BIE was then compared to the known object to determine accurate error estimation.
