The robotics competition is open to all ages.

Know students who love hands-on science experiments? Want to spark creativity through team-based problem solving? Looking for fun science activities that engage the whole family?

Everyone’s invited to the Northern New Mexico Science Showdown and RoboRAVE Rally on Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in Española at Northern New Mexico College.

The event is a celebration of science and technology, hosted by the Lab and Inquiry Facilitators. Students and families can engage hands-on activities that spark inquiry and investigation.

What you’ll see: 3-D printer pens, bristle bots and more

On March 7, interactive booths will line the walls of Eagle Memorial Gymnasium (Northern NM College). Organizations from around New Mexico and Laboratory scientists will host STEM activities and demonstrations. This year includes 3-D printer pens, rocket activities, catapult design and building, bristle bots, snap circuits, and more! A team from the New Mexico State Police is also bringing specialized robots to demonstrate how they protect public safety and security.

The robotics competition is open to all ages. Challenges include a Sumo robot battle, a robot “firefighting” challenge to extinguish candles, and more.

4 reasons to go:

  • RoboRAVE and the Science Showdown are designed to promote collaboration over competition.
  • The event facilitates inclusive, teamwork approaches to science that encourage students to engage and learn from each other.
  • Hands-on science activities are a great way to build in quality family time.
  • The 2020 RoboRAVE Rally and Northern New Mexico Science Showdown make science accessible for all ages.

Sign up information:

LANL supports RoboRAVE in helping make robotics and STEM activities available for all students. Specific challenges are designed that do not require a physical robot, and some can even be engaged virtually.
