The Research Library provides a large collection of print and electronic books, journals, reports, conference proceedings and many audio/visual materials.
Research Library items are available for check out to LANL employees and retirees only.

NOTE: There is a 50 item limit per customer.

Loan Periods

  • 28 days
  • 10 days if on hold for another patron
  • 28 days for print copies
  • 7 days for microfiche


A book or report may be renewed as long as it is not requested by another patron.

Interlibrary Loan items are not sent via interoffice mail, they must be picked up from the Research Library.

Lost / Damaged / Missing Items

Replacement of Research Library items that are lost, damaged beyond repair, or stolen is the responsibility of the patron. Charge codes will be requested by Library staff and used to replace the item with an exact copy or a relevant item of equal or lesser value.

Retiree Borrowing Program
