The Associate Laboratory Directorate of Weapons Engineering (ALDW) integrates the stockpile stewardship program and executes weapons engineering and testing in support of the Laboratory's critical mission. ALDW consists of the 6 Divisions and several Programs Offices.

The Weapon Verification and Validation Division
The Weapon Verification and Validation Division (V-DO) verifies that weapon designs meet requirements and validates that the designs function as intended, ensuring successful completion of investigations, qualification tests, and evaluations. V Division accomplishes the verification and validation of weapons designs through assembly, non-destructive evaluation, test design and planning, and test execution.
Weapon Systems Engineering
The Weapons System Engineering Division (W-DO) provides the program management and system engineering necessary to sustain the safety, reliability, and security of the legacy nuclear stockpile. The division generates key certification data for annual assessments on the health of certain warheads. This role demands ongoing surveillance of the active stockpile and evaluation of the potential impact of any issues.
