- Annual plan for cleanup of LANL legacy waste
Annual plan for cleanup of LANL legacy waste
1000 Central Ave.
Event Description
The Department of Energy’s Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office (EM-LA) will discuss cleanup work completed in fiscal year 2017 and present cleanup milestones and target dates for 2018.
The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) will host the meeting, which is an annual event required by the consent order. About the Consent Order: Issued in 2016, the Consent Order is a settlement agreement between NMED and DOE that guides and governs the ongoing cleanup of legacy waste at LANL through a campaign‐based approach and an annual planning process. The annual planning process allows for revisions to cleanup campaigns based on actual work progress, changed conditions and funding. About EM-LA: The Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office investigates where hazardous chemical and radioactive materials may be present as a result of past Laboratory operations and to clean up sites where such materials are still found above acceptable levels. Starting in spring 2018, Newport News Nuclear BWXT-Los Alamos, LLC Los Alamos (N3B Los Alamos) will manage environmental remediation and legacy waste disposition work, including cleanup activities performed under the consent order. This new contract will be managed by EM-LA. Resources: Read Appendix B in the Consent Order to learn about the milestones for 2018 and the targets for 2019 and 2020.
