The Richard P. Feynman Center for Innovation (FCI) facilitates programs designed to stimulate high-tech start-ups and business growth, create job opportunities, and attract business and capital to the region. Together, the Laboratory and the communities of Northern New Mexico are working to build a diverse and vital economy.

Innovation in New Mexico  

The programs below help small businesses and entrepreneurs successfully deploy LANL technology and expertise to improve their product or business. They support companies in every stage of development through access to technology, technical assistance or investment and help strengthen the high tech ecosystem in New Mexico. 

New Mexico Small Business Assistance Program

The New Mexico Small Business Assistance (NMSBA) Program allows for-profit small businesses in New Mexico to access cutting-edge technologies, solve technical challenges, and gain knowledge from experts at both Los Alamos and Sandia national laboratories. At no cost, small businesses with a technical challenge can seek up to $20,000 worth of assistance from lab scientists or engineers for projects that require testing, design consultation and access to special equipment or facilities.

Key Dates

  • August 13 – Release FY15 Leveraged Call
  • September 10 – Leveraged Proposals Due
  • September 18 – Announce Leveraged proposal decision
  • October 23 – Leveraged Presentation material due
  • November 5 & 6 – Leveraged Presentations
  • November 18 – Announce funding decision for Leveraged Projects
  • January 2015 – Begin funding for individual projects


Los Alamos National Security Venture Acceleration Fund
Venture Acceleration Fund

The Venture Acceleration Fund (VAF) is sponsored by Los Alamos Connect invests in Northern New Mexico companies to help commercialize technology and take it to market faster.

Key Dates

  • February 2015 – VAF Call Released
  • March 2015 – VAF Applications Due
  • April 2015 – VAF Review Meeting
  • May 2015 – Companies selected for VAF Funding
  • August 2015 – VAF Recognition Event

Season of Innovation

FCI, in collaboration with other organizations in the community, is helping to support a season of innovation in New Mexico.  Every year in mid-September, events focused around innovation and entrepreneurship is offered across the state. The two organizations that lead these efforts are Tech Fiesta ABQ and the Los Alamos ScienceFest.

Los Alamos Connect also offers market research and business coaching to help businesses reach the next level of success in Northern New Mexico.
