Collaborative Agreements
Cooperative Research & Development Agreement (CRADA)
A CRADA enables industry, academia, and nonprofit entities to collaborate with the Laboratory for the purpose of joint R&D activities. The boilerplate CRADA can be found here.
Work for Others/Non-Federal Entities (WFO/NFE)
A WFO/NFE agreement is a bilateral contract that enables a non-federal partner to request the Laboratory to perform a defined scope of work or tasks that draw upon the unique capabilities of the Laboratory. While the Department of Energy financially supports the majority of research conducted at the Laboratory, funding from other sources—sponsored research—is growing in importance. Sponsored research is conducted consistent with the Work for Others guidelines established by DOE for national laboratories.
Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs)
NDAs protect proprietary information exchanged between parties during initial interactions and discussions between the Laboratory and another party on specific technical areas.
To generate an agreement, please contact nda@lanl.gov or complete a Principal Investigator Questionnaire through nda.lanl.gov using Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.
In addition to the PI Questionnaire, a completed Company Questionnaire will be required. The NDA Generalist will request this directly from the company representative you list on the PI Questionnaire.
The following are examples of the different types of agreements:
- Bilateral NDA (pdf)
- Unilateral-In NDA (pdf)
- Unilateral-Out NDA (pdf)
Material Transfer Agreement (MTA)
An MTA is a contract that governs the transfer of tangible research materials between two organizations when the recipient intends to use the material(s) for his or her own research purposes.
