LANL's mission is to develop and apply science and technology to ensure the safety, security, and reliability of the U.S. nuclear deterrent; reduce global threats; and solve other emerging national security and energy challenges.
More than two-thirds of our funding comes from the National Nuclear Security Administration.
The annual budget for Los Alamos National Laboratory is about $2.2 billion. More than two-thirds of that funding comes from the National Nuclear Security Administration for
- nuclear weapons programs
- programs to limit spread of nuclear weapons and materials (nonproliferation)
- programs to keep Laboratory secure (safeguards and security)
Other sources include
- DOE Office of Science
- DOE nuclear energy programs
- Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, and other national security entities
- Corporate partners in cooperative research and development projects
