TAOS is the foillow-on to the AngelFire system, an airborne image surveillance method developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory and used in Iraq to provide imagery-based surveillance to ground forces.

In 2012, testing is under way,with deployment to Afghanistan scheduled during the year.

AngelFire was deployed during the 2011 Las Conchas Fire that threatened the Laboratory. It proved the quickest way to develop a comprehensive understanding of the fire front and terrain conditions, helping responders hone strategies for mitigating and suppressing fire.
