DOE Nuclear Physics and ASCR approve NUCLEI project on computational nuclear physics

The Nuclear Computational Low-Energy Initiative (NUCLEI) SciDAC-4 project has been awarded funding as a 2017 SciDAC-4 project of the DOE Nuclear Physics and Advanced Scientific Computing Research programs. The NUCLEI project is designed to understand the structure and reactions of atomic nuclei and nucleonic matter with unprecedented breadth and fidelity using the most advanced computers and computational algorithms. It provides strong synergy with DOE experimental facilities including the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB), Jefferson Lab, and Fermilab.

The collaboration includes five national laboratories (Argonne, Los Alamos, Lawrence Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore, and Oak Ridge National Laboratories) and seven universities (Iowa State U., Indiana U., Michigan State U., Ohio State, U. of North Carolina, U. of Oregon, and U. of Tennessee). More than 20 senior investigators are participating in this project.
