Planning for the upcoming school year is already well underway. Along with partners at the Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation, we have improved our suite of education programs and even have new offerings for students and teachers.

For example, we will be launching a new engineering event called “Future City” for grades six through eight. In addition, we plan to expand Mathcounts, the Hydrogen Fuel Challenge, Science Bowl, RoboRave, and our most recent initiative, the LANL Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Challenge.

We look forward to having additional schools from throughout northern New Mexico participate this year. Providing these types of hands-on learning opportunities develops critical thinking skills, fosters creativity and encourages students to succeed in school.

To learn more, visit the Laboratory’s education website.

In this month’s issue of Community Connections not only do we talk about July’s 70th anniversary events but we also announce several upcoming lifelong learning opportunities including a new Frontiers in Science talk on research into nature versus nurture. I hope you’ll find time to attend.

Director, Community Programs Office
