LANL announces new senior leadership position, associated organizational restructuring

Paul Henry named principal associate director for capital projects

LOS ALAMOS, New Mexico, March 18, 2011—Laboratory Director Michael Anastasio announced the creation of a new senior leadership position-principal associate director for capital projects (PADCAP)—and an internal restructuring that will combine project management and environmental cleanup functions under the new directorate.

Paul Henry has been named the PADCAP. He is a Bechtel senior manager who brings to the Lab 32 years of construction and enterprise management experience. Henry begins his new position on March 28.

"Over the next 10 years, the Laboratory will make a heavy investment in major capital projects, both construction and cleanup, that will transform our site and enable future mission," said Anastasio. "Performance execution and integrated management of our entire capital portfolio is of utmost importance."

Henry will relocate from Pueblo, Colorado, where he served most recently as manager of the $3.2 billion project to safely destroy the stockpile of deadly mustard chemical agent at the Pueblo Chemical Depot. It's one of several such megaprojects projects Henry has managed in his career.

"Paul brings a set of skills that will help us consolidate, integrate, and standardize our approach to capital project activities," said Anastasio.

Prior to Henry's assignment in Pueblo, his Bechtel work included engineering and construction projects in the People's Republic of China, development efforts in Egypt, and industrial projects across the United States. His association with Bechtel began with work on the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station in California. In addition to serving Bechtel as a project manager, Henry has managed the company's North American industrial operations and has been responsible for various aspects of marketing, engineering, construction, and procurement. He was elected a principal vice president in 2010.

Henry earned a bachelor of science degree in construction management from Arizona State University.
