Christina Behr-Andres named science advisor to governor
Los Alamos National Laboratory sits on top of a once-remote mesa in northern New Mexico with the Jemez mountains as a backdrop to research and innovation covering multi-disciplines from bioscience, sustainable energy sources, to plasma physics and new materials.

Los Alamos staffer began duties this month
LOS ALAMOS, New Mexico, June 9, 2011—Christina B. Behr-Andres has been selected to serve as science advisor to New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez. Behr-Andres will aid indevelopment and promotion of science and technology policies for economic and educational opportunities, among other responsibilities in her new role.
"We are pleased that the governor's office has once again expressed confidence in the scientific expertise of Los Alamos National Laboratory by selecting a member of our staff to serve as science advisor," said Director Charlie McMillan. "I extend my sincere congratulations to Tina Behr-Andres. I know the state and its citizens will be well-served by her abilities."
Behr-Andres, who began her career at Los Alamos in 2004, has more than 20 years' experience in management of national laboratory research, academics, and private-sector consulting. She currently serves as deputy division leader of Los Alamos's Intelligence and Space Research Division. She also has held management positions at Los Alamos in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Division and the Water Stewardship Program.
She holds a PhD in environmental engineering as well as degrees in geochemistry and geological sciences. Behr-Andres worked in several private-sector positions in environmental engineering and environmental risk assessment prior to her tenure at the Laboratory, and she was a technical advisor to the governor of Alaska for two different administrations in the 1990s. She also has worked as an associate professor and is a licensed professional civil engineer.
Behr-Andres began her work with the governor on June 6.
