GRANT WRITING SUCCESS

Two area teachers, Reynie Benelli and Christine Peters, were awarded a Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation Great Ideas Grant to start a new STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) Robotics Academy for 100 fifth- and sixth-grade students at Piñon Elementary School in White Rock.

Modular robots called Cubelets will help students learn about engineering and design principles by teaching the three primary actions of a robot: sense, think, and act.

Next year, organizers hope the program will expand to include all grade levels as part of an after-school club.

PERSONAL MESSAGE

Although we are proud of this accolade, as we continue to diversify and strengthen our workforce, it’s equally important to remember the individuals who paved the way for our current—and future—employees.
