Ekdahl named IEEE Fellow

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has honored Carl Ekdahl of DARHT Physics and Pulsed Power (WX-5) with the title of Fellow. The IEEE cited Ekdahl “for contributions to high-power accelerator development and the generation and transport of electron beams for flash-radiography.”

Ekdahl’s achievements

Ekdahl received a doctorate in physics from the University of California, San Diego and joined the Laboratory in 1975. His research includes high energy density plasmas and hydrodynamics, pulsed power, nuclear weapon test diagnostics and the physics and applications of intense relativistic electron beams. For the past several years he has been engaged in accelerator and beam physics at the Dual Axis Radiographic Hydrodynamic Test (DARHT) facility. Ekdahl has won 10 NNSA/DOE Defense Programs Awards of Excellence, authored or co-authored more than 150 articles, and received four patents. He serves on the International Advisory Committee for the High Power Particle Beam conferences and as Senior Editor for the Charged Particle Beams and Sources section of the IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science.
